Nothing for the Journey?

Luke 9:3, "Take nothing for the journey, no staff, nor bag, nor bread, nor money; and do not have two tunics." ~ ESV  That is a verse that has weighed heave on my soul since I was just 15.  I grew up with a hoarder, and every time I tried to downsize...  I was made to put stuff back.  Then I set out with my husband to start our new life... and we left with a duffle bag each and two backpacks to go on the bus.  Then we moved to and from Chicago with truck load of items.  Then from Kansas to Flagstaff to Thoreau with smaller truck load.  Then we took a uhall to Keavy, KY from Thoreau with all the stuff we had gathered.  Then we stored much of our stuff when we moved from Keavy to Farmington, NM.  When we came to Phoenix, we make 3 trips in 1 car.   I feel the weight of the items we have gathered.  I miss the lightness of the early days.... of that first trip as we just started out.

I know the "Gypsy Road", the path of a nomad, a traveler for the Lord, is not for everyone... and there are times I just want to throw in the towel and say I am done...but He picks me up and says, "For such a time as this..." and I keep going.  Yes we will settle down somewhat one day... and are semi-settled even now.  But that does not mean we should become to attached to things...  For we are all just passing through, and this earth is not our homes... Heaven is our true home, for all who believe!

In Dine Bikeyah, at Last!

What an adventure the Move turned out to be!  We started out early in the morning on Monday, January 27th from Keavy, KY where we had been living. Day One went by with little issue other than bitter cold.  We stayed at Hurricane Mills, TN for the night, and headed out early on the 29th from there planing on making it to Poteau, OK.  Such was not meant to be.  We made it to just 20 miles east of Memphis, and "Stormy", our car broke down.  Thus we were there most of Tuesday and all of Wednesday.

Thursday saw us back on the road, and made all the way through Arkansas and a short way into Oklahoma before night fall.  After a good nights sleep on a soft bed, Friday, we headed onward through all of Oklahoma, Texas, and then to New Mexico.  Our hearts soared as we crossed under the "Welcome to New Mexico" sign.  Then it was a hard push on to Farmington.  We turned northwestward at Albuquerque, and hit snow crossing the badlands in the dark.  At nearly 11pm on the 31st, we made it into Farmington (Totah), New Mexico at last!

Road "Home"?

Just where is home anymore?  Is it out in Dine Bikeyah?  Is it back there in Kentucky?  Is it somewhere else that God has not shown us yet?  So many questions, so many thoughts.  And still not answer for the long road ahead.
Our "little brother" and his passing has made us think harder about so many things.  We dont really know what the path before us holds, but we know we need to, for now, get back out here to Dine Bikeyah, and get here fast.

Yet, here we sit, Robby and I, at the motel in Sallisaw, OK, on our way back to Keavy, KY.  The trip is nearly over, and we will be back to life "as normal"... if there really is such a thing for gypsies like us.  I trust the days and months a head help us figure more stuff out, but for now, this gypsy gal has to get back to Keavy, so she can wash clothing, and get ready for her bus trip to Wichita, KS to see her dying mom...
But first, a good long nights rest and another day on the road.

Kentucky Thanksgiving/Christmas

Mom and Dad Nickles moved to Kentucky as planned soon after Robby and I loved to Chicago.  So, as we had to pick which holiday we went home for, we picked Thanksgiving when the roads should be better.  But then this is Greyhound, and we are dealing with Kentucky to Chicago... so who knows?

This is to be both our family Thanksgiving  and our Christmas, so we have to make the most of it... And what fun we are having.  We ate the roast beasts (turkey and ham)! We helped put up the tree at their new place.  We exchanged gifts.  And now we are just enjoying family.  It is good to have a break.
