Winter!

Winter is here again with all her lady like charms!  The crisp, cool air, the dancing flakes of snow, the ice crystals forming on the windows... such a delight for the soul!  I await her chill arrival every year, and at last she has crossed my door step!  This winter child is content!

A Job!

I am working a seasonal job!  I am so excited.  It is my first job outside of baby/yard/dog setting or church...  Where?  I am working at Bergmann's Pumpkin Patch!  Other than nearly freezing my hands of cleaning small pumpkins in the cold water early mornings it's a blast.  Often, I get to take a hayride out to the fields, because it is faster to hitch a ride than to walk it. ~_^  It is just awesome!

I am still nervous every plane that flies too low over head (Haysville is on air path Wichita's airport.), fearful that another attack will come... but it doesnt.  *La sigh!*  Forever changed.

Enter Matt

Matt, my dear friend and "little brother" from the New Orleans trip has entered into a more key place in my journey.  As of today we are e-mailing and calling each other alot.   He makes me laugh, and not many people can do that.  It is good to add a little "bro" to the clan, now if only we can grow larger...  a family dies if it does not grow and expand.

Note to self: Bev and Deirdrea are so much alike in what they talk about are interested in, and their vocabulary, do not call them back to back, or even on the same day!  For the life of me, I couldn't keep straight who I was talking to... and I have known Deirdrea since her birth, and Bev since only I was 15.  But it is a relief to have gals to talk with, too. It is such a blessing to have good friends like Matt, Deirdrea, and Bev in my life!

SHOCK!

Nothing like this has happened since Pearl Harbor was attacked December 7th, 1941.  I am sitting here still in utter and complete shock at what has happened.  Mom and I were on the phone with Plymouth Plantation making orders so that the items would be here in time for the Thanksgiving season, when the lady told us to turn on the tv, because a plane had flown in to one of the Twin Towers.  I watched the other plane fly in and the towers come down... not only that but the attack on the Pentagon... what are we coming to?

I have had my prayer candle lit as I have watched and prayed.  Everything is closed.  The stores, the banks, they are talking of closing the road through McConnell Air Force Base.  Our branch of the WTC (wheat and airplanes) here in Wichita is on high alert.  They fear the airline industry will be forever changed.  What does that mean for me just preparing to go into the work force, living in the "Air Capital of the World"?

"God help us all!  I am scared, I am nervous.  I am fearful for those lost and those who may be suffering.  Help us.   Protect us.  Don't let anything else harm us this way soon!  Amen."

Christian Goths?

Something interesting I was introduced to while in New Orleans, was the concept of Subculture Christians: Goths, Punks, Sk8ers, Metalheads, and more. I mean, I had know somewhat about Punks who serve Christ, one of the youth pastors from camp (who's mom is good friends with mine), is a Punk.  But I never really thought of it, especially when it came to the Goths.  I have always been interested in Goths, but everyone told me "Those black clothed heathens have nothing to do with Christ, and their is no hope for them unless they convert and give up there dressing in darkness."  Yet, dark colored clothing for the first 1700-1800 years of Christianity was looked on as being pious... hmm.  I must look into this more.

To my delight, I have found ChristianGoth.Com, a wonderful site full of info run by Lady Michaela.  I have been e-mailing her now for a while. More an more I am thinking this might be who I am, and that God might have a calling for me among those who dwell in the Shadowlands.   I am not sure.  Need to do alot more thinking, praying and research... this gypsy gal may just be a gothic gypsy gal.

Journey to New Orleans!

So here I am in New Orleans with my new found friends...  Sonnie, Matt, and so many others.  As I sit on the floor of the church on my bed roll drying off, I cant help thinking... "Wow, this is more than I ever imagined!"  I have heard people speaking full Cajun French, eatted mostly Cajun and Creole food, and discovered Cafe Due Mont Ice Coffee.  Even more, I found a "little brother", and a dear friend...

What have I done besides see the sights?  We hosted a VBS at a church in the 9th Ward.  Done street ministry along side voodoo booths, fortune tellers, and tarot card readers.  Talked at length to a practicing druid from Ireland.  Yes, we did take a day to shop at the markets and shops... but that was one day out of 14! And that is also the day it desided to down pour on us... thus why I am sitting here drying off.  LOL!

Camp 2001

This is my last year going to Camp Pomme de Terre as a camper.  Still it was a blast going with Chas. Nothing like 2 year ago, when I got so sick on the way home that Samuel nearly panicked.  Rightly so, though at time we did not know my mystery illness had begun.  I still think it might have something to do with the lidocaine in the sunburn treatment the nurse was spraying on other teens in the clinic after I had my had my horrid coughing fit.   This year is so much better!  Such bittersweet times, at least I can go back for women's retreats!

Mission Trip this Summer!

I am going on a mission trip this summer to New Orleans via Global Expeditions, just as I did back in 1998 when I went to Mexico!  I am so excited!  Got all my paper work in.  Got my support letters typed out.  Creative part?  I am asking for this for graduation gifts instead of other things... ^_^  Best Graduation present I can think of!

St. Patricks Day!

I have three favorite holidays (plus a few only a few know about), and today is one of them.  Christmas, Halloween, and St. Patrick's Day... not because of the wear'n of the green, the leprechauns, or the likes... no for the man, Patrick of Ireland, or Maewyn Succut Padriag to be exact.  He was the man who brought God's Word to my people, the Irish for the first time where it really took off.  Sure, a few had come before, and there were some believers among the slaves... but it was with Patrick that it took hold in the upper classes as well.   He was a man who was first a slave of the Irish people, found his freedom, then risked his life returning to them to share the Gospel... that is true love and faith... they could have killed him on the spot for being a runaway slave...

His witness, and becoming one of those whom he was sent to (no one remembers for sure where he came from, but everyone remembers him among the Irish)... so completely he called them his people... is inspiration for me...
"O, God,  might I be like that on my journey-task! Amen!"

Life...

What do I make of life?  What are my dreams and goals?  Where do I want to go from here?   These  are the questions that have been swimming around in my head... Not just because I am now 18 (and freaked out on my birthday... unsure where the path after high school goes)... but because I need to start making plans.  High school ends in just months... I am not really sure where to go from here.  My bike will only get me so far, and I have no job, no insurance, and only a dream in my heart.

There has to be a journey-task out there for m me... something God made me to do.  Or maybe it works like this: maybe there is a different journey-task for each season of our lives.  How should I know, but I sure do hope to find out soon!

"Sing the song of the journey today,
Sing the song of the days to come,
Sing the song of adventure before,
Sing the song of hope and joy,
Sing the song of my life!'   ~ MMH/MMN - 2001

Beginning...

Well, I got a web journal.  I do this in my notebook all the time anyway, why not here too?

If I have a chance, I might "back blog" a few important entries from pre-today, but for the most part it will be from today forward, looking forward and back... lets see what this journey of life holds!
