Reflection... 2014

What a year it has been!  Moved from Kentucky to New Mexico, jobs dried up for us, my mother died.  We began to examine the future: I started Natural Health studies, Robby got in to Le Cordon Bleu... thusly we moved to Scottsdale, AZ.  What a whirl wind it has been... and somewhere along the path... I lost my focus on my dreams and goals.   For these last two months... since we started the move...my natural health studies sat idle.

Natural Health to me is so much more than just a hobby, it has been a passion (especially the Herbal side) since I was 13.  Even more I have immersed myself in it after major health issues between my 16-18th years.  As dear Navajo elder put it, "God blessed us with natural cures, they must not be forgotten."  As I rediscover my path, I am seeing more and more just how this gifting and passion may play in... Rob is pursuing his passion via education.  Now I will mine, first by finishing my course, the from there we shall see.

Sometimes we lose sight of the path, not because of fog, or trials, just busyness.  Sometimes fog does roll in and we feel as if we have lost our way.  In times like those, just a day at a time, stepping no farther than we can see His light, we somehow end up discovering as much or more about ourselves than when the path is bright, and the way... but we must never stop looking for His light...  Even when it is very dark, it will still be there, we just have to have our eyes open for it.  Take heart and journey onward!

In Dine Bikeyah, at Last!

What an adventure the Move turned out to be!  We started out early in the morning on Monday, January 27th from Keavy, KY where we had been living. Day One went by with little issue other than bitter cold.  We stayed at Hurricane Mills, TN for the night, and headed out early on the 29th from there planing on making it to Poteau, OK.  Such was not meant to be.  We made it to just 20 miles east of Memphis, and "Stormy", our car broke down.  Thus we were there most of Tuesday and all of Wednesday.

Thursday saw us back on the road, and made all the way through Arkansas and a short way into Oklahoma before night fall.  After a good nights sleep on a soft bed, Friday, we headed onward through all of Oklahoma, Texas, and then to New Mexico.  Our hearts soared as we crossed under the "Welcome to New Mexico" sign.  Then it was a hard push on to Farmington.  We turned northwestward at Albuquerque, and hit snow crossing the badlands in the dark.  At nearly 11pm on the 31st, we made it into Farmington (Totah), New Mexico at last!

Storage Unit is NO more!

After 1 1/2 years living back east away from the southwest, with our stuff stored, the storage unit is no more!  That "monster" has been slayed, and now we can finish with last minuet packing and be ready to leave KY to live in Dine Bikeyah on Monday or Tuesday of next week.  So excited!

Broken Christmas Eve...

Those one trusts can turn on you in a minute...
To night was suppose to be a time of reflection and focusing on Jesus. Tonight we were suppose to have tortilla soup and watch a "Christmas Story". Tonight was suppose to be a time of each opening a gift and just making the best of this Christmas season.  Instead, a "friend" the family had over turned on Robby.

I have never been so scared in my life.  I was called a "witch" yet again... by more than one person.  Yet, I rose above my fears, and with all my might shoved the guy off Robby.  He had his knee to Robby's throat, and if I hadn't have, there would be no Robby to celibate Christmas with this year or ever again... I am shaking so bad.  I cant stop crying off and on.  So close to losing everything...

As it stands, he has bad bruises, broken beyond repair glasses, and a bedroom door that we will sleep with locked until we move in late January/early February back to Dine Bikeyah.  These two gypsies have got to get to a safer place...  I just trust tomorrow can be redeemed and we can still have a wonderful last Christmas in Kentucky... even if Christmas Eve was a broken mess...

Road "Home"?

Just where is home anymore?  Is it out in Dine Bikeyah?  Is it back there in Kentucky?  Is it somewhere else that God has not shown us yet?  So many questions, so many thoughts.  And still not answer for the long road ahead.
Our "little brother" and his passing has made us think harder about so many things.  We dont really know what the path before us holds, but we know we need to, for now, get back out here to Dine Bikeyah, and get here fast.

Yet, here we sit, Robby and I, at the motel in Sallisaw, OK, on our way back to Keavy, KY.  The trip is nearly over, and we will be back to life "as normal"... if there really is such a thing for gypsies like us.  I trust the days and months a head help us figure more stuff out, but for now, this gypsy gal has to get back to Keavy, so she can wash clothing, and get ready for her bus trip to Wichita, KS to see her dying mom...
But first, a good long nights rest and another day on the road.

New Digs...

Well, we have made it safely to Kansas after our grand adventure.  Tsalagi, the truck, has served us well!  We made it to my god mother, Donna's, for Thanksgiving... then traveled on to Kansas the next day.  We had a full truck bed.  Everything of value that we owned was in that truck, from my guitar, Truth, to my Victorian Wardrobe, to the mini Navajo rug, from Mo.  Kentucky to Kansas is along drive, but my dad was nice enough to call for a motel just out side of St. Louis for us.

Our new place is an apartment in the back of a church in their basement that they use for charity or special cases.   So as this is an emergency, and no one was using it, they gave it to us.  Sure, it has one small window, red carpet, a bed on pallets on floor... but it is our's for at least 6 months while we get on our feet.  A few room dividers, a coffee table and floor chairs, and I am sure I can make this place feel like home in no time.  A place to think and refocus after this great trauma has be fallen us.
Now, this gypsy goth gal needs to crash into bed and sleep sound for the first time in ages!

Disowned ?!?

I dont know where this came from... here we are staying with some family, and there is a big old fight.  I step in and defend verbally my husband.  That turns on me... Now I am a witch, who poisoned Robby's mind, tricked him into planning to go to the Navajo (He has been going summers since 1995, I have only known him since 2004?), and I am doing dark magic.  Umm... NO!  Not only that, my Grandmother and my Mother must be witches too!  No, it is not true.    Robby stepped in and defended me after they had turned on me.  He demanded an apology, as they had not only disrespected his wife, but also a pastor's wife (my mom), and a talented RN who was no longer living to defend herself (my grandma).

That backfired.  Instead of them apologies, we were given 24 hrs to get all our stuff we wanted out of the house, and we were told that from that point on we are totally disowned.  At least we have my truck, Tsalagi, and my family still.  I hate leaving Immanuel Baptist Church, but good bye Kentucky.  Tis not safe for us here.  Maybe when things calm down we will be back.  Dine Bikeyah is still calling, and Kansas is half way there.  Onward... and back to the Gypsy Road it seems... and just when I was getting a wee bit settled in too... *La sigh!*  God help us!

Kentucky Thanksgiving/Christmas

Mom and Dad Nickles moved to Kentucky as planned soon after Robby and I loved to Chicago.  So, as we had to pick which holiday we went home for, we picked Thanksgiving when the roads should be better.  But then this is Greyhound, and we are dealing with Kentucky to Chicago... so who knows?

This is to be both our family Thanksgiving  and our Christmas, so we have to make the most of it... And what fun we are having.  We ate the roast beasts (turkey and ham)! We helped put up the tree at their new place.  We exchanged gifts.  And now we are just enjoying family.  It is good to have a break.
